Work Permits
Beginning Oct. 2, 2026, youth employment permits will be processed through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s (LEO) new Youth Employment Permit Portal rather than through schools.
Here is the new Youth Employment Permit Portal website: www.michigan.gov/YEPP.
The transition to the new portal does not change Michigan’s youth employment laws, requirements or protections. It simply moves the permit process to a new, centralized online platform.
A valid youth employment permit issued by a Michigan school before Oct. 2, 2026, will continue to be valid until the minor turns 18 or graduates. A new work permit is needed if the minor changes jobs.
