Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:

Thank You, PTO and Family Volunteers for Dance Support: We thank our family volunteers in advance for helping out with the after-school dance this evening.  We also thank our PTO for sponsoring this dance for our students.  Students attending will be able to enjoy the music, pizza, and games provided by our PTO.  This will be a great opportunity for our students.

Cell Phone Policy: We wanted to pass along a reminder to our families regarding our cell phone and earbud policy at Beagle as we are seeing an increase, at times, with students attempting to use cell phones/ear buds during the school day.  Our policy is as follows: Students are allowed to bring their cellphones to school.  Once students enter the school building, students are expected to keep their cell phones off and out of sight for the duration of the school day.  Cell phones are not to be used in the hallways, classrooms, restrooms, or locker rooms.  Students may access their cell phones at the end of the school day once they exit the building. We appreciate our family members continuing to support our policy on the home front.

Use of AI on Assessments, Cheating: We’ve had an uptick in various classrooms of students attempting to use AI while taking assessments, which is tricky for our staff members to “block” using “Blocksi” as the current AI feature being used (Google Lens) flies under the radar.  The technical details as to why that is happening are not important here and our technology department is looking further into this matter to prevent it from happening; what is important here is that cheating on assessments is a violation of our code of conduct and our school-wide behavioral expectations around integrity.  Students who cheat on an assessment will receive a zero on that assessment.  While AI can be a great tool, these are the problems that come with advanced technology.  Our staff will be addressing this with our students in the near future during CNC classes and other core content courses.  Please be sure to continue conversations on the home front regarding integrity on all fronts, especially when taking an assessment.

Hayes/Beagle PTO Meeting: Our next PTO meeting will be held at Beagle Middle School in the Media Center on Tuesday, February 10th, at 6:30 p.m. We welcome all families to attend. There is no cost to participate, and coming to a meeting is a simple way to stay connected and informed.
The Hayes/Beagle PTO supports meaningful events, activities, and opportunities for our students and staff, and this work is possible because of the many families who volunteer their time. Whether you are interested in helping with upcoming projects or just want to listen and learn, we would be glad to have you join Zoom link: http://https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994"
